A-Troops (formerly Ambassador Troops)
Represent our council at special events!
Great Opportunities
A-Troops enjoy unique and exciting experiences, grow in poise and confidence, interact with new people, and receive a special recognition pin. A-Troops have appeared in newspapers and on TV, modeled for council publications, stood centerfield during a Padres game, marched in parades, participated in a UCSD SuperComputer Center event, performed the flag ceremony at conventions, greeted guests, met the mayor, presented awards, led the Pledge of Allegiance at City Council meetings, and ushered at concerts. A-Troops never know when they may have a chance to take a behind-the-scenes tour, meet someone famous or watch a world-class performance! To avoid excessive travel, whenever possible troops are invited to participate in opportunities close to home.
Requirements
A-Troops range from Daisy through Senior levels and come from all geographical areas and backgrounds. Juliettes (independents) are welcome, too.
A-Troops and their leaders receive a special gold "A" pin |
A-Troops require:
- Flexibility–While some A-Troop opportunities are announced well in advance, others are
last-minute.
- Mentorship–Experienced A-Troops help mentor new A-Troops by answering questions,
demonstrating the flag ceremony, etc.
- Uniforms–Complete uniforms are needed for many events. Council stores will provide a
20% discount on uniform pieces to official A-Troop members. Parents of girls who need
further financial assistance may apply confidentially for Council Opportunity Funds to
cover the cost of uniform pieces.
- Image release–Each girl must have a form signed by a parent or
guardian to permit photographing and/or filming her for Girl
Scout publicity purposes.
- One-year commitment–A-Troops are asked to make a
commitment to participate whenever possible during the current
Girl Scout year (October to September).
