Adventure Weekends offer new campers fun-filled snapshots of the camp experience. Highlights include crafts, campfires, skits, team-building activities and nature exploration led by camp staff.
Who: Troops, Juliettes and the Volunteer Essentials designated, minimum number of troop leaders. Minimum ratios will be strictly followed so we can accommodate as many girls as possible. There must be one adult who has completed "Let's Camp" and CPR/first aid training.
Program: With the guidance of girl planning, participants will get a snapshot of the camp experience through a variety of arts and crafts, team-building and nature activities. Campers may perform a skit or song at the campfire. Participants earn a Camp Adventure Weekend Patch.
What is provided: Program activities, meals, lodging, resident camp staff and supplies. Please bring a first aid kit. Troops are divided into two or three cabins, lodging with other troops to encourage cooperation skills.
Leader's role: Leaders are an active part of the camp community of adults. They supervise their troops, role model positive Girl Scout behavior and enthusiastically support the weekend program and camp staff. They lead troop time with the girls, to work on skits, catch up with the group, rest and relax or do a quick project.
Transportation: Troops provide their own transportation to and from Camp Whispering Oaks or Camp Winacka near Julian.
Registration: Participants selected on first-come, first-served basis. Deadline for registration is one month before the event, but these weekends typically fill up three to six months in advance. Full payment due when registering. $100 is non-refundable once confirmed. Please note special needs such as food allergies on the registration form. This program is a full weekend commitment; plan to stay Friday evening through Sunday mid-day.
